What is the MBD Summer Undergraduate
Research Fellowship?

A 12-WEEK PAID SUMMER PROGRAM

The MBD Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship is an 12-week paid summer program that provides highly qualified undergraduate students an exceptional opportunity to explore basic science, translational, and clinical research in state-of-the-art labs.

We aim to provide students with a solid foundation for starting their careers in the biomedical sciences while integrating them into the vibrant biomedical community. Students work with graduate and faculty mentors to plan, design, and implement a research project of their choice, gaining valuable strategic and critical thinking skills in the process.

Experiential Learning

Internships can open doors to future employment opportunities, so we require our master’s degree students to complete internships in the biomedical industry. Students can choose their internships based on their career goals. Bachelor’s degree students can also complete internships in the field.

Our students also get hands-on research experience in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. They have the chance to work on revolutionary biomedical research projects with world-class faculty who are renowned in their field.

Entrepreneurship

Science breakthroughs start in the lab, but to make lasting improvements in human health, they can’t stay there. Our programs train students to bring biomedical advances from the lab to the marketplace. Through business and law coursework, our students develop an entrepreneurial spirit and acquire the legal knowledge needed to bring commercialization projects to fruition. They also gain the necessary skills to launch and own biomedical science companies.

HOW TO APPLY?

Qualified candidates must submit a nomination letter from any GSU research faculty performing interdisciplinary disease-related research. The nomination letter should include:

Student’s full name
Student’s GPA
One-page outline of the planned summer research project
Brief description of student’s strengths (academic and research) and career plans
